What to Expect

Phone Consultation

When you call our office, one of our Patient Care Coordinators will walk you through our intake process, and answer any questions you may have.

Initial Session

Before our first session, I will send you a few forms to complete and submit online. If there is a teen coming for treatment, I ask both the child and a parent sit in for the first week to talk through policies and procedures as therapy begins.

We’ll spend the first 15 minutes of the session talking through the business side of things, and you’ll have some time to ask me questions. After that, I’ll listen to your story in whatever way it needs to be told. We’ll end by talking about how the session felt, and decide together if we’d like to continue meeting.

How do I know it’s a good fit?

I always recommend that you “shop around” when it comes to finding a therapist. The first session is a great time to evaluate if you think I can be helpful to you. Sometimes it’s hard to know – what am I even looking for in a therapist?

Whether you’re working with me or not, there are a few bases every therapist should cover. At the very least, you should leave your first session feeling a little more organized. Even though your problem probably hasn’t vanished, you should have a little better grasp of what you’re facing and how you feel about it.

Therapy isn’t supposed to make you feel judged or ashamed, so notice those feelings if they surface and consider bringing them up in session or moving on to a new provider. On my end, I will always let you know if I think you’d be better served by someone with particular expertise or life experience, and I’m happy to provide referrals so that you find what you need.

I’d love to talk about whatever it is that’s weighing you down.
